Ph.D. Exercise Physiology | NSCA-CSCS | ACSM-EP-C
Sports scientist with 12 years of applied research in endurance physiology and strength & conditioning.
Dr. James Chen holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oregon and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) and ACSM Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP-C). He has spent 12 years conducting applied research in lactate threshold testing, VO2 Max protocols, and periodization for endurance and strength athletes.
Prior to joining WinSportsLab, Dr. Chen served as a sports science consultant for collegiate distance running programs and contributed to research published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance. His expertise centers on translating complex exercise physiology research into practical, evidence-based tools that athletes and coaches can apply directly in training.
At WinSportsLab, Dr. Chen is responsible for reviewing and validating all exercise physiology tools — including running pace calculators, VO2 Max estimators, heart rate zone calculators, and strength assessment tools — ensuring every formula reflects current peer-reviewed standards from the NSCA, ACSM, and primary research literature.
